During the Christmas Festivities in Cernobbio, the City Of Toys presented the Holographic Nativity Scene, a world premiere. The nativity scene was on public display from December 8, 2023 to January 7, 2024 in Our Lady of Grace Church.
What is it all about?
The term hologram refers to the projection of images in a three-dimensional manner. In fact, the hologram allows a previously recorded image to be played back. And so we did. Last November we shot the 7 main scenes of the nativity scene in a green-screen studio:
- – The Annunciation to Mary,
- – Joseph’s Dream,
- – the Census,
- – the search for housing,
- – The Birth of Jesus,
- – The Announcement to the Shepherds,
- – The Adoration of the Magi.
Seventeen actors from De-Sidera ODV Association followed the script directed and guided by the director in a predetermined space.
Then we worked post-production to isolate the actors from the background and enrich the scenes with special effects. At the same time, we worked on the actual setting of the nativity scene by creating scenery and settings inspired by those in the filmography on the theme. There was precise refinement work to make sure that real sets and virtual actors could have the same proportions and perspectives.
After a long period of rehearsal and testing in the studio, we moved on to setting up in Our Lady of Grace Church. In collaboration with Figio Image, we made a “box” that contained the technology needed to give the hologram that magical effect.
The Holographic Nativity was seen and enjoyed by 15,000 visitors who took their places in front of the proscenium every 10 minutes, the time all the scenes were narrated.
